How to Use SplitBill

  1. Create a group

Tap "New" to create a new expense group. Give it a name like "Dinner at Joes" or "Beach Trip 2025".

  2. Add friends to your group

Add the people who will be splitting expenses. You can type their names or pick from your saved friends.

  3. Invite people with a share link

Share the group link so friends can join and see the breakdown themselves.

  4. Add expenses

There are two ways to add expenses:

    Total

Use this when it's fine to split the whole amount evenly. Great for simple shared costs.

    Receipt scan

Use this when you want to go item by item, like a restaurant bill. Take a photo of the receipt and we'll read it for you.

    • Crop your picture nicely for better scan results.
    • Review and correct any mistakes in the scanned items.
    • Use the "Assign" button to quickly tag who participated in each item.
  5. Keep adding expenses

Add more expenses as the day or trip goes on. Everything stays organized in one place.

  6. Calculate the settlement plan

When everything is entered, tap "Calculate settlement plan". You can easily copy and paste the result into your group chat.

Special Split Types

Proportional split

Splits an amount based on what each person ordered. Great for tax and tip on a restaurant bill — everyone pays their fair share proportionally.

Quantity-based split

Splits based on a quantity each person used. For example, an Airbnb stay where you can enter the number of nights each person stayed.
